January 2009 Newsletter
Hello to All!
Wishing you a Blessed and Happy New Year for 2009!!! May your world be filled with an abundant wealth of love, joy, peace, and physical well-being.
Entering into a new year seems to bring me into a state of reflection of the past year and excited anticipation for the New Year's journey and adventure. Yes, I feel very adventurous and hopeful at the beginning of each New Year as it psychologically gives me another chance to shift, change, and transform my life into a direction that I am ready for. With all the unrest and uncertainty that is occurring in our world today, you'd think I'd be in a state of panic or fear, or at the very least, a state of confusion and anxiety. I've thought about this a lot and am even asking myself, "What's going on with you, Bianca? You should be in a state of fear, or at least high anxiety!" As my assets continue to decrease considerably, I seem to get calmer. Strange, isn't it? You would think that I'd be worrying about the state of my future, but I'm not and I don't feel I'm in denial either.
This is not to say, I don't have a concerned awareness of what is happening now nor a projected vision into the future, I do. What I'm saying is that I do not fear the present or future. It is what it is and I don't have control over the world's economic status. What I do have control over though, is how I react to the situation in general. Just because something occurs outside of my world, doesn't mean that I have to go into a negative reaction. The more I find myself detaching over thinking I can control the world, it's society, and economy, the easier and happier I'm allowing myself to live peacefully in the present.
My life is what I make of it, period! Whether I've lost all or part of my savings, fortune, or assets is not going to be the determinant factor in whether I am happy, sad, loving, or fearful. Even so, this does seem to be the case for many as the attachment to possessions is still very strong. Just as someone's bad temperament shouldn't affect your mood for the day, it often does, right? How can we detach from what is happening outside of us, without going into denial, to where we can still function in that world yet not go into it's drama?
One brilliant concept that will help you detach from today's economic drama is to realize that nothing is actually your possession and never was. You are a chosen steward for what it is you feel you possess/own and if God so desired, all would be taken from you in an instant. As my spiritual teacher, Derek O'Neill once said in class, "You don't even own your breath!" Wow! That statement alone knocked me off my foundation and not the statements about physical possessions. That much I already did know was a "Universal Truth" but not owning our "breath" was very shockingly profound for me. I GOT IT! In that one statement, I realized that by the grace of God we're here on earth alive today and if God determined otherwise, we would not be here. It's that simple and also complex. In the meantime, while we are living this life, what can we do to be happy, remain happy, and live in love and away from fear?
We can trust ourselves, our God-selves, to guide, love, support, and protect us from the drama (or illusion) of the chaotic world but until we go within, we're not too apt to find and connect with our God-self and we will be more prone to going into the world's drama (illusion). What is it about drama that pulls us in? Why can't we just observe it for what it is (fear and confusion) and let it go? I'm finding out that the less I possess, the more freedom I'm feeling. I'm also reevaluating my life and prioritizing it and am finding that what I once felt was essential for my well-being is actually not, only a conditioned belief. We don't have to own multiple cars, houses, hundreds of shoes, outfits, etc. to be happy, safe and secure. That's a conditioned belief that society holds and we fall victim to. I'm not saying we have to give up all physical possessions, only the attachment to needing or wanting to own them.
I refuse to believe that I'm helpless or that I don't have some input into my thoughts, feelings, and actions. I see earth as a teaching/learning ground that one must experience as part of our journey from God back to God. What we do here on earth and how we experience the journey is our responsibility and birthright. Make your life count and don't loose the lessons! Let's not repeat these heavy lessons over and over again. Let's enjoy the added freedom and increased possibilities given us when we stay out of the drama and understand that all is an illusion and only a state of mind (belief). Nothing stays fixed in an ever changing world and thank God for that.
